Rebecca "Sue" Cody

Rebecca Sue Deason Cody, age 85, was taken peacefully to heaven on Saturday, July 25th, 2026, surrounded by her family and loyal chihuahua, Chico.

She was born in Manchester, Georgia on August 22, 1940, to Roy and Adele Deason. Moving to the Coast with her parents and baby sister, Glenda, she spent her early years in Biloxi attending Holy Angels and Howard II Elementary. The family was complete when baby brother, Gene, joined the family when Sue was seven years old. The family lived on the front beach in Biloxi near DeJean's Seafood Factory until the 1947 hurricane completely wiped out the family home and all belongings. The family eventually moved to the community of St. Martin, where she completed her education and received her High School Diploma with the Class of 1958. She attended Southeastern Bible College in Lakeland, Florida where she studied music and accounting.

Sue began taking piano lessons with Ms. Fred Westbrook of Ocean Springs in elementary school. Her love of music led to over fifty years of playing in several churches as pianist or organist which began at age fourteen at Lattimer Assembly of God. After returning home from bible college, she played as church organist at Rodenberg Assembly of God, where she met and married the love of her life, Fred "Chic" Cody. After their marriage in April of 1962, she was blessed with two daughters, Kay and Pam and eventually two grandchildren, Lindsey and Brady. Her biggest joy in life was spending time with her family, gathering often for home cooked meals, swimming, boating, family celebrations, and holidays. Sue played for many churches over the years as organist/pianist including Central Assembly of God, Northside Assembly of God in North Biloxi, Full Gospel in North Biloxi, and Emmanuel Baptist Church in Ocean Springs. She worked over 30 years, three separate times as Preschool Music Teacher at St. Paul United Methodist Church where she wrote and directed hundreds of programs with the preschool. She absolutely loved working with children and they adored her. She taught with some of her dearest friends at St. Paul's Kindergarten. After retirement, they met often for lunch, shopping, and adventures, including a very memorable trip to Hawaii. She taught piano lessons to countless numbers of children and adults over the years and considered her students family. In earlier years she also worked at Biloxi School System as payroll clerk, bookkeeper at Ferson and Swan Insurance, Church Secretary at Central Assembly (CLCA), Northside Assembly of God, and Full Gospel. She also worked as office manager of two Nutri Systems on the Coast for many years alongside her sister, Glenda.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Adele Deason; sister, Glenda Deason Mallett; brother, Ronald Gene Deason; mother and father-in-law, Fred and Frances Cody; and niece, Robyn Ghiloni.

She is survived by her beloved husband of 64 years, Fred "Chic" Cody; and their two daughters, Glenda Kay Cody and Pamela Sue Batia Middleton of Ocean Springs; her beloved grandchildren, Lindsey Batia Favors (Jordan) and Brady Batia; sisters-in-love, Kay Deason and Elizabeth (Bill) Metcalf of Biloxi; brother-in-law, John Read; nieces, Susan Lynn Read Lassiter, Kristin Jones, and Danielle Silkman; nephews, Bryan Deason and Scott Read; and her loved grand nephews

A funeral service will be held at 12 pm on Saturday, August 1, 2026 at First Baptist Church of Ocean Springs. Friends are invited to visit from 10 am to 12 pm. Interment will follow at Crestlawn Memorial Park.
