Richard Dennis Breslin, age 83, of Biloxi, MS passed away on Friday, March 22, 2024. He was born on May 7, 1940 and grew up in the small town of Gilbertsville, NY.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Patricia Howell Breslin; his parents, Wilson and Bertha Breslin; and his sister, Wilma Laraway.
Richard is survived by his children, Deborah Breslin Mamana (Joe) and Mark Breslin (Jennie); his grandchildren, Rachel Breslin Townsley, Sara Breslin, Julia Mamana, Jamie Mamana and Joey Mamana; two great-grandchildren, Xander Townsley and Everly Townsley. He is also survived by his God-child, Molly Ann King Wills (Kane) and their one son, Ezra Austin.
Richard grew up playing every sport available, loving the outdoors and participating with his local scout troop achieving the rank of Eagle Scout. He graduated from Gilbertsville Central School and enrolled in college at Colgate University where he was recognized as an all-American in soccer. He graduated in 1962 and joined the United States Air Force where he became a decorated fighter pilot, squadron commander and rose to the rank of Lt. Colonel. After 28 years in the Air Force, he retired in Biloxi where he met and married his wife, Pat. A self-proclaimed "Yankee," he fell in love with the Gulf Coast, fishing, sailing at the Biloxi Yacht Club and volunteering with the Seafood Industry Museum. His greatest joy was being the best "Paw Paw" to his five grandchildren. He frequently showed up on the sideline for sporting events and was their biggest supporter.
Richard was a long-time member of Biloxi First United Methodist Church where he acted as Lay Leader and served on numerous committees. Anyone that knew him likely can still hear him saying "hoo-ah" whenever he got excited.
In lieu of flowers, the family would like memorial donations in his name to be made to Biloxi First United Methodist Church at 14220 Shriners Blvd., Biloxi, MS 39532.
Funeral services will be held at Biloxi First United Methodist Church on Wednesday, March 27, 2024 at 11:30 a.m. Family and friends are invited to visit one hour prior. Interment will follow at Biloxi National Cemetery.
