Richard James Dobbs, Sr.

Richard James Dobbs, Sr., age 77, of Gautier, passed away on Thursday, December 1, 2022.

Richard was born in Childersburg, Alabama.  He served in the Army and upon discharge moved to Pascagoula where he began working at Ingalls Shipbuilding becoming a Master Shipbuilder; working for over 40 years.  He was a member of Crossroads Church of the Nazarene in Ocean Springs where he faithfully attended until his health began declining.  He loved bantering with his Pastor.

Richard is preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Marion “TM” and Carrie Ella Dobbs; siblings, Joyce Lang, Margaret Martin, and Wayne Dobbs; and wife, Sue Dobbs.  

Survivors include his only son, Richard James (Nishia) Dobbs, Jr.; granddaughters Kyndall (Ty) Cochran, Kelsey and Karlie Dobbs; one great granddaughter, Hadley Cochran; siblings, Donald (Lil) Dobbs, Gaither (Martha) Dobbs; and many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank all those who have visited, prayed, called, and provided meals for Richard.  A special thank you to Joyce Meleady, for caring for him for the last couple of years; Philip Teal, for the countless hours of visitation (and feeding his cat); and Pastor Nick Peeples, for his friendship and being with them during this most difficult time.

A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Tuesday, December 6, 2022 at Crossroads Church of the Nazarene in Ocean Springs. Friends are invited to visit 1 hour prior. Interment will be at Crestlawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family would like donations to the Crossroads Christmas Offering to impact local and community ministries plus bless those who were recently devastated by Hurricane Ian in Florida.
