Richard Dean “Mac” McDonald passed away peacefully in his sleep on Thursday, May 28, 2026. He was born in Springfield, IL on August 12, 1935.
Mr. McDonald attended school in Sangamon County and received his diploma from Springfield High School while serving in the United States Air Force. After leaving the Air Force, he married Margaret “Peggy” Hopkins of Hitchin, Herts England. He later attended electronics school. Mr. McDonald was employed with several companies over the years working in electronics, including Lockheed, Electronic Specialties, and finally Litton Industries.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Peggy; parents, Earl and Jessie McDonald; and siblings, Robert McDonald, Norma Eugene “Jean” McDonald, and Rosalie JoAn Kirkman.
Survivors include his children, Kathleen McDonald-Neal and Lorna McDonald; grandchildren, Travis Neal, Leia Neal, John Carmon, and Anne-Marie Walker.
Mr. McDonald leaves behind 7 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren as well as 3 nieces and 2 nephews: Rose McDonald, Pam White, Laura Graver, J.O. McGrew, and Jesse McGrew.
The family wishes to thank and send love to Richard and Marilyn Tucker for many amazing years of true friendship and help, as well as Rusty and Kathy Crabtree and Doug Schepp for their help throughout hospice.
