Robert "Buddy" W. Jones, Sr.

Robert W. “Buddy” Jones, Sr., 75, of Vancleave passed away on Thursday, October 22, 2015 in Gulfport. Buddy was born in Biloxi and remained a lifelong resident of the Gulf Coast. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who was totally devoted to his family. Buddy’s 5 seconds of fame came on October 7, 1957 while as a paratrooper with the 101st Airborne he appeared on the cover of Time Magazine while defending the civil rights of the Little Rock Nine. Buddy’s survivors include his wife of 52 years, Sammie Jones; his sons, Col. Robert W. (Jaye) Jones, Jr. and Casey (Gail) Jones; his grandchildren, Stephen Jones, Sean Jones, Glenn (Shantel) Parker, Christopher Parker, Heather Parker, James Craig and Jessie Craig; and his great-grandchildren, Maddie, Brian, Addie, Hamiya, Halea, Alex and Lily. Funeral Services will be held at the Ocean Springs Chapel of Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home on Saturday, October 24, 2015 at 7:00 pm. Friends may visit from 5:00 pm until service time. Interment will be at Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery on Sunday, October 25, 2015 at 2:30 pm.
