Robert Earl "Bob" Young

Robert Earl “Bob” Young, 87, of Biloxi, MS passed away on Tuesday, June 14, 2016 in Biloxi. Bob was born in 1929 in Wichita, KS. He grew up in Kansas during some of the worst of the depression with the family living in various locations in Southeast Kansas. He left Kansas in 1947 to visit relatives in Rock Island, IL where he started his data processing career when ‘computing’ consisted of wire boards, punch cards and sorters. After returning to Kansas in 1948 he worked at Boeing until 1950 when he enlisted in the Air Force. His first posting was in Biloxi, MS. Bob returned to Wichita and married May Roselle Parisa on May 25, 1951. They returned to Biloxi to continue their military career until 1955. At that point they returned to Wichita, working data processing for the Postal Service. In 1963 he took a job with the Air Force this time as a Project Planner with the family moving to Chateauroux, France. The family returned to the States with Bob taking the job as Chief of Computer Operations with the Department of the Army in St. Louis. The last five years of his career he moved to the General’s staff as Planning Officer. He retired from working with the Army with 32 years of service. After retirement Bob had much more time to spend with his grandchildren. He loved to go to all of their school activities, sports/music/plays and other things. He loved to take them on trips, boating and hiking and watch them grow up. They used to say “Grandpa did you enjoy work?” With May’s retirement they moved back to Biloxi. She became nanny for then, 2½ week old Maxy Chaney. She is now 12 years old. She filled the void of not having his grandkids close. Next to his grandchildren, Maxy will always be his granddaughter in the south. He will always be remembered for his smile and care in listening to those around him. He loved life so much he spread joy, love and peace. His family - wife May sons Robert, Jerome, Mark, daughters-in-law Victoria, Frances, Susan, eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren - were the joy of his heart. In lieu of flowers the family prefers donations be made to Leggett Memorial UMC, 1410 Beach Blvd., Biloxi, MS 39530. A Memorial Service will be held at Leggett Memorial United Methodist Church on Thursday, June 16, 2016 at 2:00 pm. Friends may visit from 1:00 pm until service time. The Howard Avenue Chapel of Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. And his last request – Take Someone to Lunch
