Robert Edward Kennedy, 65 of Scottsburg, Indiana, died on Thursday, December 27, 2012 at I.U. Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana. He was born on June 19, 1947 in Scottsburg, Indiana, the son of the late Arthur Edward Kennedy and Mary Elizabeth (Maggard) Kennedy-Cowles. Robert graduated from Scottsburg High School in 965 and attended Culver Military Academy in Culver, Indiana. He was married on April 20, 1985 to Julie A. (Kirby) Kennedy. He was a retired Senior Chief Petty Officer from the United States Navy, a retired Senior Field Weapons Analyst for Lockhead Martin in Port Hueme, California and a driver for John Jones in Scottsburg, Indiana. Robert was a Vietnam War and Cold War Veteran. Survivors include wife, Julie A. (Kirby) Kennedy; a daughter, Bobbi Reece of Scottsburg, Indiana; a stepson, Mark Vogelmeier and his wife Lorie of Ocean Springs, Mississippi; a stepdaughter, Shanda Alto and her husband Erik of Ocean Springs, Mississippi; three brothers, James L. Kennedy and his wife Marilyn of Scottsburg, Indiana, Thomas A. Kennedy of Chattanooga, Tennessee and Kenneth R. Cowles and Nikki of Brush Creek,Tennessee; a sister, Beth Ann Buckel and her husband Eddie of Scottsburg, Indiana; two grandchildren, Raylynn and Joshua Reece, six step grandchildren, Lindsey and Ryan Lammers, James Robert Vogelmeier, Eric, Anthony and Michael Alto and one step great granddaughter, Maizie Grace Dye. Graveside Services will be held at 1:30 PM on Thursday, January 3, 2013, at Biloxi National Cemetery in Biloxi, Mississippi. Memorials: National Down Syndrome Association c/o Collins Funeral Home.
