Robert Russell “Butch” Usher, age 54, a longtime resident of Gulfport before moving to Pass Christian, passed away on Tuesday, December 23, 2025.
Butch was born on March 8, 1971, in Kingston, NY, to Melvin and Patricia Usher. They lived about 5 years in Westminster, CA, until moving to Sixth Ward, LA, where he grew up. Butch graduated from Pearl River High School, where he was "Mr. Football", an All-Star, an All-American, and he still holds the record for most interceptions! He was very well liked and loved by his teammates, classmates, coaches, and teachers. Butch was extremely gifted, talented, successful, and skilled at anything he did. He could absolutely build anything that he set his mind to. Butch enjoyed sports, particularly football, basketball, golf, and Nascar. He loved Kenny Chesney’s music and going to Pensacola, Gulf Shores, Destin, and the island of St. Martin. Butch became an avid Texas Longhorn fan and vacationed in Austin, TX often and encouraged his son, J.T., to attend college there. He was the prominent business owner of BB Granite for 30 years.
Butch was genuine, thoughtful, honest, loyal, kind, and generous. He was a loving, devoted, proud and involved husband and an appreciated special dad who did everything with his family and never missed anything. Butch was the true definition of a ‘family man” and his family was blessed to have him. He was dedicated, inspired, and he guided J.T.’s interests, dreams, goals, and accomplishments. He was J.T.'s biggest supporter and role model.
Butch is survived by his parents, Mel and Pat Usher; his wife, Sabrina; his son, J.T.; his sister, Becky; his brother, Chris; and his Siberian husky, Rocky.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Butch’s birthday, Sunday, March 8, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. at Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home, 1726 15th Street, Gulfport. Family and friends may visit from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. To celebrate Butch and his love for Kenny Chesney and the Texas Longhorns, "please wear a tropical or an orange shirt".
The family requests, in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to GoFundMe, https://gofund.me/8d24318a5 , for J.T.’s college fund or to Meal Train, https://mealtrain.com/r0m3v7 , to support Sabrina’s and J.T.’s immediate needs.
