Roy Marcelin Stokes, age 60, of D’Iberville, Mississippi, passed away on October, 28, 2023.
Roy was born to the late Milwood and Barbara Stokes on April 11, 1963 in Frankfurt, Germany. He explored many cities and states with his parents and siblings throughout his childhood. He attended Whigham High School in Whigham, GA before moving to the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Roy spent many years working in the trucking and service industry where he served in various positions.
Roy was a man who worked hard all his life and was unconditionally devoted to his family and friends. He was a loving son, father, husband, brother, uncle, and friend.
He enjoyed crawfish boils and cookouts with family and friends. Roy loved cooking, especially using his mother’s family recipes. He was proudest when cooking her famous seafood gumbo during the holidays. An avid Saints fan, you could always find Roy yelling “Who Dat” on a Sunday afternoon.
Roy loved playing catch with his pups and spending time with his family who he loved dearly. More than anything, Roy loved and could not have been prouder of his four children, Zack, Nathan, Taylor, and Emma.
Roy is preceded in death by his parents; his paternal grandparents, Nathan and Sarah Stokes; his maternal grandparents, Marcelin and Martina Lightell; his wife, Mary Waldrop Stokes; his brother, David Stokes; his brother-in-law, David “Buster” Powell; his great nephew, Alexander Norton, and great niece, Audrey Finuff.
Roy is survived by his loving children, sons Zack Leger, Nathan Stokes, Taylor Stokes, and daughter Emma Stokes; his siblings Laverne (Tom) Clayton, Kathy (Steve) Strickland, Yvonne (Mike) Johnston, Buddy (Porfi) Stokes, Belinda Powell, John (Susan) Stokes, and Karen (Donald) Montana; numerous nieces and nephews, and the Waldrop family, along with his loving dogs Shadow and Bill.
He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him, but his memory will forever live on in our hearts.
The family of Roy would like to express their sincere gratitude for those who have reached out in love, prayer, cards, and support. They ask that you continue to remember them in your prayers.
Visitation will be on Friday, November 3, 2023 from 10-11 AM with a Mass of Christian burial to follow at the Cathedral of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Burial will follow at the Biloxi City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Bradford O’Keefe Funeral Home in Biloxi, MS.
