Mr. Russell Velpo Bodie, 84, passed quietly in his Ocean Springs home to be with his heavenly Father on the evening of February 10, 2005. Russell was born on December 7, 1920 in Waynesboro, MS. He has been a longtime resident of the coast for the past fifty years. He joined the Army right out of school and then on to the CCC during WWII; The CCC took him to the West Coast of Oregon. He then worked as a civil service employee at the Biloxi V.A. Hospital, until he retired in 1973. Russell was a member of the First Baptist Church of Ocean Springs. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He was a wonderful man that touched a lot of hearts; he will be missed by many. He spent most of his time camping with his beloved wife. He was a lifetime member of Coast to Coast, Good Sam, and South Magnolia Travelers Camping Clubs. One of his favorite places to camp was Manor Creek Water Park located in his hometown of Waynesboro. He was preceded in death by his first wife Ruth Bodie, his parents and three brothers. He is survived by his present wife, Mavis Reeves-Bodie, one son, Danny Bodie and his fiancé Tina Poulos of Ocean Springs, three daughters, Glenda Johnson and her husband Robert of Biloxi, Cozette Ledford and her husband Terry of Roswell, GA, and Gail McQuen of Greenville, SC, one brother Marvin Holland and his wife Alos of Waynesboro, MS, three sisters, Joyce Caves and her husband Jimmy, Dolly Waller and her husband Don, all of Waynesboro, MS and Donie Martin of Yucutta, MS, Grandchildren, Racheal Cole, Carrie Barfield, Leslie Young, David Johnson, Reachel Williams, Tiffany Tynes, Mark Ledford, Andrew Ledford, and Shannon Creek, sixteen great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. Visitation will be on Sunday , February 13, 2005, from 6-9PM,at the Ocean Springs Chapel of Bradford O'Keefe Funeral Home. On Monday, February 14, 2005, there will be a 10:30 AM chapel service in the funeral home chapel. Burial will follow in Southern Memorial Park Cemetery. The Ocean Springs Chapel of Bradford O'Keefe Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
