Sharon Findley Harper passed away Monday, January 15, 2018, at Ocean Springs Hospital following a difficult battle with cancer.
She was born in Greenville, MS, being the only child of Thomas and Gertie Alford Findley. She attended Greenville public schools and Mississippi State University. Sharon married William Thomas "Tom" Harper in 1970.
She sacrificed much of her time to care for family members and friends, young and elderly. Sharon had a volunteering spirit and was forever active in charity fundraisers, PTA, Biloxi-Ocean Springs Junior Auxiliary, and Dutchess Club. She loved playing tennis at Treasure Oak Country Club and was active in the Dogwood Garden Club. Her community involvement also included coordinating the Ocean Springs Centennial Celebration and serving on the Jackson County Planning Commission and supporting the Ocean Springs Chamber of Commerce.
Sharon had many talents and was an expert seamstress. From childhood she made her own clothes and gifts for others. She had a keen eye for detail and it showed in everything she did, from home decorating to coordinating weddings and special events.
The family moved from Ocean Springs to Vancleave two decades ago where she loved caring for her animals and plants, birdwatching, and living the country life. All the while Sharon remained a very social lady and was at ease when talking with anyone. She never met a stranger and she liked everyone she met. Sharon will be missed.
Survivors include three children, Louisa Harper (Scott) Miller, William Blackburn Harper, and Matthews Howard Harper; and many loving friends and cousins.
Visitation will be held Friday, January 19, 2018 from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m., with a service at 2:00 p.m., all at the Ocean Springs Chapel of Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home. A private interment will be held at Crestlawn Memorial Park.
