Sheila Daniels, 93, passed away on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, in Ocean Springs, MS. Sheila was born in Chester, Pennsylvania, on February 16, 1932, and spent most of her life as a resident of South Portland, Maine, and Ocean Springs, Mississippi.
Sheila graduated from South Portland High School, where she excelled in field hockey and basketball. In 1952, she married Richard “Dick” Daniels, and within a few years, they welcomed their first child, Nya. As a new young mother, Sheila moved to Winston-Salem to be with Dick during his football career at Wake Forest, where she became a devoted Deacon supporter. The family later returned to South Portland, Maine, where Sheila and Dick had two more children, Richard and Lisa. In 1968, they moved to Ocean Springs, Mississippi, where Sheila quickly became involved in the community as a founding member of the Ocean Springs Booster Club. She was also an avid Boston sports fan who especially loved her Red Sox and the Ocean Springs Greyhounds.
She was a longtime member of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, where she served in many capacities — as a member of the Legion of Mary Altar Society, a Eucharistic Minister, and an officer of the Parish Council. She was also awarded the Bishop’s Cross for her service to the Catholic community.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Albert “Dick” Daniels; her daughter, Lisa Jean Daniels; her parents, Rosamond Jenkins Ouellette and John “Ted” Chadbourne; her sister, Nya Talbott DeMaio; and her brother, Lawrence Chadbourne.
Sheila is survived by her daughter, Nya (Aubrey) Fine of La Verne, CA; her son, Richard (Leslie) Daniels of Ocean Springs; and four grandchildren who lovingly referred to her as “Grammy,” “Grandma,” or “MeMe”: Sean (Nelli) Fine of Providence, RI; Corey Fine of Denver, CO; and Sarah Parker and Georgia Kate Daniels of Ocean Springs. She also leaves behind three great-grandchildren — Leora, Matteo, and Alina Fine of Providence, RI. In addition, she is survived by her sisters-in-law, Leah Henderson of Scarborough, ME; Virginia (Don) Cushing of Gorham, ME; and Donna Henderson of Topeka, KS; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Sheila will be remembered as a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. She will be deeply missed for her love, generosity, and the sense of humor that so many were lucky to enjoy.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 25, 2025, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Ocean Springs, followed by a Rosary from 10:45 to 11:00 a.m. and a Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Bellande Cemetery.
