Sherilyn "Sheri" Denise Newson

Sherilyn Denise Newson “Sheri”, 75 years old, of Ocean Springs passed away on Tuesday, October 27, 2026.

Sheri was born to Harold and Ohala Townsend (Deceased) in East St. Louis Illinois and later moved to Omaha, Nebraska where she grew up. She graduated from Technical High School in Omaha, and Gulf Coast Community College with an Associate of Arts Degree, and William Carey University with a bachelor’s in business administration and another in Christian Studies.

Sheri served honorably in the United States Air Force for from February 18, 1971, to July 10, 1977. Her duty stations included Scott AFB, Illinois, Okinawa Japan, and Barksdale AFB in Bossier City Louisiana.

Sheri married Gerald G. Newson July 23, 1977, in Haughton, Louisiana while stationed at Barksdale. Gerald and Sheri were next stationed at Misawa AB, Japan in March 1978 to Aoril 1981. Their son, Michael Fitzgerald Newson, was born September 20, 1979, at Misawa AB. Their next assignment was Kelly AFB, (The Hill) San Antonio, Texas from April 1981 to March 1985. Next, they went to Hill AFB, Utah from March 1985 to Aprill 1986. The next son, Stephen Christopher Newson, was born September 21, 1985, at Hill AFB. The next assignment was to Keesler AFB, MS in April 1986 until Gerald retired in 1998. Sheri is survived by her spouse, Gerald G. Newson; and children Colonel Micheal Fitzgerald Newson, USAF and Stephen Christopher Newson.
