Shirley “Joan” DeVries, age 88 of Biloxi, MS passed away on Friday, March 22, 2019 at the home of her loving daughter.
Joan was a native of Spring City, TN and a long- time resident of Biloxi. She was a homemaker who enjoyed cooking, gardening, and the outdoors. She danced well into her 80’s as a member of the Belles and Buoys Square Dancing Club. Her faith was a huge part of her life, and she was a long-term member of Bay Vista Baptist Church and most recently a member of Popps Ferry Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Malcolm Robert Smith and Myrtle Matilda Smith (TN); husband, Glenn Burton DeVries; daughter, Glenda Gail Barnes; and her son-in-law, Joseph Edward Strickland.
She is survived by her children, William Robert DeVries and Janet Darlene DeVries; her companion, Gene Huff; her grandchildren, Kimberly Lesso (Mike) and Josette Lewis (Brandon); great grandchildren, Alyssa Ransonet (Tyson), Layla Ransonet, Maddox Lewis, and Camille Lewis; sisters, Dorothy Dean Lankford (TN), Ilene Sampson (MI); and her beloved cat, Freckles.
The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at the University of S. Alabama Medical Center ICU, the nurses and staff at Gulfport Memorial, and Blakeny Pierpont and staff at Kindred Hospice.
The family requests that any memorial donations be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
A visitation will be held from 2 to 3 pm Tuesday, March 26, 2019 with a service at 3 pm all at the Howard Avenue Chapel of Bradford- O’Keefe Funeral Home. Burial will follow at the D’Iberville Memorial Park.
