Stephen R. Sowers

Stephen R. Sowers, 77, passed away June 22, 2026.

Born in Tecumseh, Michigan, Steve was the son of Gloria Jean (Dearth) Sowers and William Robert Sowers. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Steve graduated from Tecumseh High School in 1967. Following graduation, he proudly enlisted in the United States Navy, serving during the Vietnam War at Naval Air Station Atsugi, Japan, and aboard the aircraft carrier USS Hancock (CVA-19) “The Fighting Hannah”, through the 1970-71 cruise, Gulf of Tonkin.

After his time in the Navy, Steve built a successful career in sales. He spent the last 26 years of his life as a resident of Ocean Springs, Mississippi, where he enjoyed the Gulf Coast community and remained close to family and friends.

Steve is survived by his sister, Stephanie L. (Sowers) Ford and her husband, John, of Ocean Springs, Mississippi and his three sons: Trevor R. Sowers and his wife, Katherine, of Gulfport, Mississippi; Mathew J. Sowers and his wife, Amy, of Tecumseh, Michigan; and Stephen A. Sowers and his wife, Jamie, of Tecumseh, Michigan; and their mother, Susan Amstutz of Clinton, Michigan.

Steve was a proud grandfather and cherished the time he spent with his four grandchildren: Dahlia Sowers, Jonah Sowers, and Evie Sowers of Tecumseh, Michigan, and William Sowers of Gulfport, Mississippi. His love for his family brought him great joy and was one of the greatest sources of pride in his life.

Steve will be remembered for his service to his country, his devotion to his family, and the many friendships he formed throughout his life. His memory will be treasured by all who knew and loved him.

A private graveside service will take place at Biloxi National Cemetery.
