Ocean Springs

Stephen (Steve) Harrison Spinks, 59, of Ocean Springs, Mississippi, passed into the presence of his Savior on April 22, 2026.

Born in Natchez, Mississippi, He grew up in Kenner, Louisiana and was an active member of the Kenner First Assembly of God church with his family for most of those years. He enjoyed the outdoors and loved going on hunting trips with his Dad. He enjoyed playing various sports with Football being the primary and most beloved of them all. He attended First Assembly Academy from the 6th grade through his 12th grade graduation in 1985. He graduated with his undergraduate degree from William Carey University in 1998. Steve made many lifelong friends at both church and school during those years. Steve lived a life marked by deep faith, steady leadership, and genuine love for people, and spent decades faithfully serving as a coach and pastor, investing in the lives of students, athletes and church communities.

Most recently, Steve was an Athletic Director, Teacher and Coach at Christian Collegiate Academy. He also served at The Veritas School and Lumberton High School leaving his mark on many people along the way. He also served on staff at Cedar Lake Church, where he focused on small groups and administration, helping build strong, connected communities behind the scenes. Whether on the field, in conversation, or in quiet leadership, his calling was clear: to guide, encourage and care for others.

Steve is survived by his wife of 35 years, Melinda Spinks. Together, they built a family rooted in love and faith. He is also survived by his children: Seth Spinks and his wife Heather, Micah Spinks and his wife Olivia, and Kaylee Bender and her husband Josiah. He was a proud “Paw” to his new granddaughter, Lucy, who brought him immense joy.

He is also survived by his Dad, Harry Spinks, his brother Rand Spinks and many beloved nieces, nephews and spiritual children who he loved very much. He was preceded in death by his Mom, Celie Spinks.

Steve was more than a father to his own children, he was a father figure to many. Countless lives were shaped by his wisdom, patience, and willingness to listen. He had a rare gift for making people feel seen, heard, and deeply valued.

He loved LSU football, coaching, and the simple joy of investing in others. Known for his humor and personality, he would often say, “Peace La-Quoncious, tell your friends about me,” a phrase that perfectly captured his lighthearted spirit and unforgettable presence.

Above all, Steve was a man of unwavering faith. For most of his life, he followed Jesus wholeheartedly, living out the Gospel in the way he loved, served, and showed up for others every single day.

While he will be deeply missed, his family and all who knew him take comfort in the promise that he is now at peace, made whole, and in the presence of the Lord he served so faithfully.

“Well done, good and faithful servant.” – Matthew 25:21

We would also like to express our deepest thanks and gratitude to the medical teams at West Jefferson Hospital and Ocean Springs Hospital. We are forever thankful for your care and compassion when caring for Steve.
