Susan Louise Miller, 79, passed away on Sunday, October 18, 2026. Susan was born in Gulfport on July 26, 1947, to Robert and Thelma (DeMetz) Miller. She never claimed Gulfport, though, as she grew up in and loved Biloxi and Pass Christian. Susan was a graduate of Biloxi High School and obtained her Associate Degree. While at Biloxi High she was a member of Junior Miss Club.
Susan grew up with a strong will and independent spirit. She loved her independence and lived in various locations in both the United States and in Germany following whatever employment suited her. She was invited to move to Germany with an Air Force family, the Guises, as a nanny. Being there for several years she found joy traveling in Europe and loved the family and children as her own. After returning to the United States she worked with Mutual of New York in Memphis area; director of a day care center in Houston; dental office manager in New Orleans and Biloxi; taught in her mother’s Montessori pre-school on Keesler Air Force Base; taught at Keesler AFB day care center; and finally was Administrative Assistant at Keesler Medical Center where she managed hospital admissions & discharges and trained Airmen as they rotated through the department. After Katrina she worked in medical records before retiring from Keesler Medical Center.
Susan is preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Thelma (DeMetz) Miller; sister, Jennifer Jacques; and brothers-in-law, Michael Jacques and Michael Stillinger.
Susan is survived by her sons, Nathan Robert Miller, of Texas, and Charles Wyatt Miller, of Biloxi. She is also survived by her siblings, Molly Stillinger, of Madisonville, LA; Sally (Michael) Baughman, of Fulshear, TX; Robert Miller, of Seattle, WA; Catherine (Carl) Nelson, of San Marcos, TX; Nancy (Stephen) Graben, of Gulfport, MS; Laurie (Chip) Jackson, of Lakeland, FL; and Zan (Michelle) Miller, of Palm Coast, FL.
Susan loved and treated all her nieces and nephews as her very own. She was affectionally known as ‘Sue Sue’ by them all! Susan loved to give her nieces & nephews books when they were young, always inscribing a note inside the covers. Such as, inside There’s No Such Thing As A Dragon, “I hope all of your life’s problems are as small as kittens! No dragons!” And inside The Tree That Cried, she wrote “This is a book to read often. Even when you are older, and even when you are all grown up, I hope you will read it to yourself and other little ones.” She is survived by these “special children”, Wendi Hedges; Carrie Fontan; Beaux Mustin; Brian Mustin; Chris Baughman; Beth Smith; Ben Baughman; Erin Miller; Courtney Miller; Trey Nelson; Amelia Nelson; Jon Nelson; Drew Graben; LeeAnn Dujmov; Katelyn Hawkins; Amie Brinkley; Jerry Overby; Mandy Parker; Megan Jacques; Matthew Jackson; David Jackson; Mary Molleda; Adam Miller; and Carlee Miller. As well as 49 great and great-great nieces and nephews.
Susan is also survived by her dear first cousins Michael (Janelle) DeMetz; Audley Taylor; Linda DeMetz Hilton; Catherine (Russ) Sheerin; Robert Mahood; Richard Mahood; Mary DeMetz Roberson; Jimmy Skelding; and more extended cousins than any of us could count!
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the staff of Lakeview Nursing Center in Gulfport for the love and care they gave Susan during her last years, and to Deaconess Hospice (especially Casey) for the compassion and support they provided during her final days.
The family requests no flowers but memorial donations can be made to the charity of your choice.
