Ted Eugene Gilbert, Sr.

Ted Eugene Gilbert, Sr., age 89, of Ocean Springs, Mississippi, passed away on Wednesday, October 7, 2026.

Ted was born on July 19, 1936, in Houston, Texas, to Gene B. Gilbert of Uvalde, Texas, and Henrietta Geoglein Gilbert of San Antonio, Texas. He graduated from Henry Grady High School in Atlanta, Georgia, and attended Sol Ross College in Alpine, Texas.

Ted proudly served in the United States Air Force from 1956 to 1964, achieving the rank of Airman First Class while serving as a Preventive Medical Specialist. Following his service, he worked in various positions in sales and marketing. In his free time, Ted enjoyed cooking, woodworking, and digging for gems in the mountains of North Carolina. He was a devoted Atlanta Braves baseball fan and especially cherished the companionship of his beloved Jack Russell Terrier, Ella J.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Gene B. Gilbert and Henrietta G. Gilbert, and his stepmother, Allene Gilbert.

Survivors include his wife of 39 years, Sherry Davis Gilbert; his sons, Ted E. Gilbert, Jr. and Kenneth F. Gilbert (Diana); his bonus daughter, Carol Sturgill (Frank); and his grandchildren, Matthew Gilbert (Erica), Sara Gilbert Ingram (Josh), Rachel Gilbert Parrish (Michael), Joe Gilbert (Shila), Kristopher Gilbert (Amber), Joshua Gilbert (Taylor Smith), Kyla Harris (Siddhesh Naik), and Blake Sturgill. He also leaves behind twelve great-grandchildren: Olivia, Isabella, Nolan, Bailey, Andrew, Ava, London, Joseph, Hunter, Maddison, Lucas, and Jimmie. Additionally, he is survived by his sisters, Emilie Franklin (Gary) and Suzi Dopp; and his sisters-in-law, Holly Aungst (John) and Lynn Price.

A service honoring Ted's life will be held on Friday, October 16, 2026, at 12:30 p.m. at Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Home on Howard Avenue in Biloxi, Mississippi. Friends may visit at 11:30 a.m. until the service time. Interment will follow at Biloxi National Cemetery.

Ted will be remembered for his many interests, his love of family, and the memories he leaves behind with all who knew and loved him.
