Terry E. Barnes

Terry Elmond Barnes, 59 of Vancleave, MS passed away on Saturday, July 9, 2022.

There is majesty in moments unbound, the sound of the unexpected laughter, the roll of thunder, the power of the unexpected strike of lightning, the joy of the love of a child, the scope of the universe contemplated in the quiet backwater of our minds, that allow all of the love of life to wander, unattended, and welcome to inquiry- this was Terry Barnes.

Terry was the quintessential coastal person, from Lafayette to St. Augustine. In a world where people struggle to find out where they belong, Terry was made for this place and time. Terry’s world revolved around gun shows, car shows, music concerts, Mardi Gras parades, a fine dining restaurant, a good recipe, the silence of an unattended beach, the deep commitment to his life’s companion, and teaching us all the difference between a relationship and a partnership.

He structured his life to the simplest but at the same time the most complex of human endeavors. The rock that never moved. During his time at Ingalls Shipbuilding, he was not late for work a single day, not once in thirty- five years. He taught his children by example. His remarkable intellect transcended the conversations around him. Those that knew him, reveled in his ability to turn a conversation with a simple glance, smile, or accepting or rejecting the argument with the elegance of an understanding mind. He would wish you well, ask you for a recipe, and astound you with his quiet but contemplative mind. He was loved by everyone he met.

Terry was preceded in death by his parents, Willie Elmond and Tevis Calton Barnes.

He is survived by his wife of sixteen years, Amanda Barnes; his children, Tiffanie (Aaron) Yarbrough and Andrew (Kristin) Barnes; grandson, Brewer Jones; and sisters, Carol (Calvin) Williams, Shirley Damonte, Donna (Elmer) Casey, and Betsy (Keith) Barnes Martin.
