Thomas Louis Gray

November 22, 1947 — June 13, 2024

Ocean Springs

Tommy Gray died on June 13th, 2024, surrounded by his family. He is survived by his sister, Darlene Frentz, and brother, Randy Himmel, as well as his beloved nephews and nieces. Thomas Louis Gray, the eldest of three siblings, was born November 22, 1947 in Biloxi, Mississippi to Robert and Estelle Himmel. The family owned and operated L. Pitalos Grocery on Howard Avenue in Biloxi for many years, before closing shop and resettling in Ocean Springs in the early 70’s.

Tommy was an old soul who lived life exactly how he saw fit, up and to the very end. He never owned a cell phone or computer and got by without them just fine. Tommy had a natural charisma that drew people in, but it was his genuine interest in what they had to say that kept them there. His attentiveness was a sign of respect and he always treated people with the dignity he thought they deserved.

Tommy was the life of the party, without being the center of attention. It was his enthusiasm for the things he loved and enjoyed that made him so fun to be around. He wasn’t a man who wasted time on things he saw no value in, which is why he never spent a single second of his life online. He chose to make memories and enjoy his favorite activities in the real world. His love for movies and music were unparalleled and could only be rivaled by his love for family (and golf).

Tommy retired from Ingalls (Northrup Grumman) after forty years and spent his golden years caring for his aging parents, and spending time with his friends and family. The life and time he shared with them is simply immeasurable.

Tommy was truly ‘one-of-a-kind’ and his death has left a void in all our hearts, that can never be filled again.

Tommy is survived by his siblings, Darlene Frentz and Randy Himmel, his nephews: Richard Jr., Alexander, Dallas, Danny, Hunter, Erik, and Lakken, and his nieces: Ursula, Anastasia, and Harleigh. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, June 21st, 2024 at Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home, Howard Avenue in Biloxi. The family has no plans for a funeral service or reception afterwards.
