Thomas Finley Hewes, M.D. of Gulfport died Monday, November 27, 2017 in New Orleans.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Vivian Pringle Hewes and Archibald C. Hewes, M.D. He is survived by two brothers, Harry p. Hewes of Gulfport and Archibald C. Hewes, M.D. of Philadelphia, PA
He was a native and longtime resident of Gulfport. He graduated from Gulfport High School, Westminster College Fulton, MO with BA, University of Mississippi with M.D., Internship General Surgery at Charity Hospital, New Orleans, LA, and residency Orthopaedic Surgery at Tulane University, New Orleans, LA. He also served as Lt. Commander in U.S. Navy Reserve, Naval Hospital, Annapolis, MD.
Dr. Hewes was a member of the following professional societies, American Medical Association, Mississippi State medical Association, Coast Counties Medical Society, Mississippi Orthopaedic Society, American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, Southern Medical Association, and the Houston Orthopaedic Society. His civic activities included, member SAE Social Fraternity, member and Deacon of First Presbyterian Church, Gulfport, member of Combined Board Beauvoir, member of Advisory Board of Gulfport Salvation Army, Commodore of Gulfport Yacht Club, and member of Classic Yacht Association of North America.
