T. William Howard passed away on April 8, 2016, from complications of dementia.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy English Howard; sister, Theresa (Bob) Culling; sons, William Howard and Patrick Howard, both of Gulfport, Sean Howard (Deda), Baton Rouge, and Tim ((Ji Young) Howard of Honolulu, Hi. Three stepchildren, Darrel (Teri) Kramer, TN, Mark Kramer, CA, and Jenifer (John) Santori, NJ. Grandchildren, Patrick Howard, Zachery Howar, Jonathan Howard and Seanna Howard. Step grandchildren, Jessica, Cody and Zachary Kramer, Anna and Elizabeth Santori, and Madison and Mariah Humphries and three great grandchildren. He is also survived by ex-wife, Natalie Nolan Howard, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins who he greatly enjoyed. He was preceded by his parents, William Harvey Howard and Margaret Quinn Howard, three siblings, Tommy Howard, Cecelia Ann Quoyser and Justin Howard.
Bill obtained his BA, Masters and Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Tulane University. He was in the Navy in 1945’ under the V-5 Program which provided the opportunity for his education. His career included supervising staff psychologist at Southeast Louisiana State Hospital, chief psychologist at Central Louisiana State Hospital, private practices in Springfield and Joplin, Missouri, assistant professor at Drury College, private practice in Gulfport, and Gullf Coast Mental Health Center. He also did commitment evaluations for Harrison County and was instrumental in patients being hospitalized instead of being held in jail.
His interests were many and changed through the years. He coached baseball for his sons’ teams, called square dancing, played handball and taught himself to play piano after the age of 60. He had a great love of a great range of music. He was a magician and belonged to the International Brotherhood of Magicians. Perhaps one of his greatest interests was little theater and he performed until he couldn't . He was instrumental in the forming of Center Stage.
His sense of humor could not be denied and that wit continued until the end. He loved jokes and telling stories and had a laugh that could be heard down the hall.
