Thomas Lonzo Moree, passed away on January 27, 2017 in Gulfport, MS at the age of 74.
Tommy graduated from Bassfield High in 1960 then went on to attend Perkinston Junior College and The University of Mississippi. At the age of 14 he started working summers with his family at Bailey Lumber & Supply Co. After college he started full time there and had many roles as the company grew. His final and favorite position was buyer of commodities. Tommy also was a part of the building of the coliseum in Biloxi.
A lifelong love and dream came true for him at the age of 70 when he opened a cattle company with Sherron Bond in Perkinston. He spent his “golden years” working at Bailey every morning (which he said kept his mind sharp) and at the cattle farm until dusk (which kept his body and soul in shape).
Besides his family and friends Tommy loved time spent in nature. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and had the privilege of doing both all over North America. He spent the last years trying to repopulate South Mississippi with quail, his favorite species from childhood.
He is preceded in death by his parents Lonzo & Amanda Moree of Columbia, MS; Grandparents Mitchell & Ada Moree of Columbia, MS and Clem & Jewel Shivers of Bassfield, MS.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce Bond Moree; daughter Shay Moree Powell (Bud); and granddaughter Emory Thomas Powell of Mandeville, LA; sister, Sondra Thacker (John) of Athens, GA and loving sister in laws, brother in laws, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be at First Baptist Gulfport from 9am to 11am Monday, January 30th with the funeral at 11am. Graveside service will follow at Sunflower Church Cemetery in Perkinston at 1:30pm.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to First Baptist Gulfport Building Fund, 12190 Hwy-605, Gulfport, MS 39503.
