Travis Leon Hanson, 78, of D’Iberville, Mississippi, passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by his loved ones, on Sunday, January 25, 2026.

Travis was born on August 4, 1947, in Jasper County, TX, to Harvey Alton Hanson and Iris Irene Franklin Brooks. He graduated from Gladewater High School in 1967 and proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. During his military career, he furthered his education at the University of Maryland, Torrejón Air Force Base, and Washington Technical Institute, Torrejón Air Force Base, both in 1975. He later earned an Associate Degree in Cardiopulmonary Technology from the Community College of the Air Force.

In 1984, Travis received certification from the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography and devoted his professional life to caring for others. He worked for Shreveport VA in Louisiana, the Gulf Coast Veterans Health Care System for 25 years and later with Merit Health Biloxi for 15 years. Travis enjoyed hunting, fishing, and playing golf.

He was preceded in death by his father, Harvey Hanson; his mother, Iris Irene Franklin Brooks; his daughter, Rebecca Hanson; and his siblings, Larry Noble Hanson, Alton Roy Hanson, and Harvey Joe Hanson.

He is survived by his wife, Karen L. Hanson; his children, Kandice Scott (Brian), Lindsey Hanson (Gary), Holly Hanson, Chester Balius (Kim), and Brian Winters (Kim); his grandchildren, Courtney Dudly (Dakota), Shelby Ochoa (Chris), Amelia Winters, Joel Winters, Katie Balius, and Ally Tubre; five great-grandchildren; his siblings, Tommy Hanson (Michelle) and Alta Ray (James Robert); and his pets, Raven, his very special pup adopted from the Jackson County Animal Shelter, and his grandpups, Ruger and Rufus.

The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to Hospice of Light and SRHS staff for the compassion and gentle care provided to our loved one and to our family. Special thanks to Christine, Heather, Brittany, Aaron, Mike, Jamie (social worker), and Loren (chaplain)—they truly follow a calling. The family also thanks the 2 East staff for the care provided during his inpatient stay.

Funeral services will be held at Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home, Howard Avenue, Biloxi, on Thursday, January 29, 2026, at 11:15 a.m. Friends may visit from 10:00 a.m. until service time. Interment will follow at Biloxi National Cemetery.
