Una Cruso Broussard

May 30, 1928 — Oct 15, 2026

Biloxi, Mississippi

Una Sophie Cruso Broussard, a beloved matriarch of the Point Cadet community in Biloxi, Mississippi, passed away on Thursday, October 15, 2026, at the age of 98.

Born on Seymour Lane in Biloxi, Una spent her life rooted in the community she loved. She grew up in a seafood-family business (Cruso Canning Co.) where she also worked. She attended Sacred Heart School and remained a familiar and cherished presence on the Point throughout her life, building lasting friendships and raising a family that would become her greatest legacy.

As the mother of eleven children, Una was the heart and foundation of a large and loving family. She was the true definition of a matriarch, and the closeness shared among her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren is a beautiful testament to the love and values she instilled in them. In 1979, she was crowned mother of the year by the Biloxi Lions Club.

A devoted Catholic, Una was a longtime member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church where she served as a Eucharistic minister and its Altar Society. Her unwavering faith in God guided her throughout her life. Through her strength, patience, and unconditional love, she taught her family the importance of faith, perseverance, and always being there for one another.

Una enjoyed life’s simple pleasures, specially making ceramics, playing cards with her friends, and “ratting the roads” with her lifelong best friend, Rita Pelaez. Friends from grade school, Una and Rita shared a lifetime of laughter, adventures, and cherished memories. She was also a lifelong member of the Fleur de Lis Society in Biloxi, where she enjoyed the friendship and traditions that meant so much to her.

Known for her quick wit and wonderful sense of humor, Una was truly one of a kind. She passed that same humor and spirited personality down to many of her children and grandchildren, ensuring that a part of her will always live on through them.

While her passing leaves an immeasurable void, her family finds comfort in knowing she is reunited in heaven with her beloved husband, Edward “June” Broussard II; daughter, Suzanne Broussard; son, Neil James Broussard and her dear friends, Rita.

Una was preceded in death by her parents, William “Bill” Cruso and Lillie Touche Cruso; her daughter, Suzanne Broussard; her son, Neil James Broussard; her brothers, Eugene Ellzey, John Cruso, and Willie Cruso; her sisters, Mary Lofton, Olivia Locke, Josephine Cruso, Lillie Cruso, and Vivian Wack; her grandson, Jody Broussard Jr.; and her lifelong best friend, Rita Pelaez.

She is survived by her children, Edward “Zizzy” Broussard (Sue), Susan King, Jock Broussard (Denise), Wanda Denise Carroll, Jody Broussard Sr. (Phyllis Rhynes), Frank Broussard (Carolyn) (Sue Adams), Keith Broussard (Peggy), Una Boswell (Bill), and Jamie Broussard (Catherine); her sister, Mildred “Tootsie” Caillavet; her daughter-in-law, Jamie Broussard; 22 grandchildren; 42 great grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; and numerous extended family members and dear friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Michael Catholic Church on Wednesday, October 21, 2026 at 12:00 p.m. Friends are invited to gather two hours prior. Interment will follow at Biloxi City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to St. Michaels Church.

The Broussard family will forever cherish the love, faith, laughter, and strength Una shared with them. Her life was a gift to all who knew her, and her greatest legacy will always be the family she loved so fiercely.

May she rest in the loving arms of God, reunited with those she held dear, and may her family find comfort in knowing that the love she gave will never leave them.
