Vera F. Barron, age 82, of Gulfport, passed away Tuesday, May 22nd, 2007 at home.
Mrs. Barron was born in London, England and had resided in Gulfport since 1965.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Louis Barron Jr.
She is survived by her daughter Jacqueline Salsman of Gulfport and her son David Barron and his wife Yvonne of Columbus, MS, and numerous family members in Texas. She is also survived by four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Barron joined the British Royal Air Force at 17 during World War II and was a lead aircraft specialist when she met her future husband who was serving in the U.S. Air Force in England. Three years later they were married in Cambridge, England.
Throughout her life Mrs. Barron participated in many organizations including the Coast Guard Auxiliary, she also taught boat safety classes at Jeff Davis, was a member of the League of Women Voters; held offices of secretary and president of AOAI; studied through the N.Y. School of Music; was an accomplished organist and pianist; designed period clothes for the Biloxi Little Theater, was a member of the auxiliary of the VFW, the American Legion and DAV.
She was an outgoing person who loved life to the fullest. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
The family would like to thank Major Leczhner, nurse at Keesler Hospital, for his care and kindness and also sincere gratitude of those at Trinity Hospice of Ocean Springs for their love and gentle care and support to our mother.
Visitation will be held on Friday, May 25, 2007 from 11:30am to 12:30pm at Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Home, 2511 Pass Road in Biloxi with a service at 12:30pm. Interment will follow in the Biloxi National Cemetery.
