Violet May Sherwood

Mrs. Violet M. Sherwood, age 87, of Ocean Springs, passed away on Thursday, November 6, 2008 in Ocean Springs. Mrs. Sherwood was a resident of the Gulf Coast for fourteen years. She worked for the 4H club in Michigan; she knitted sweaters for the Navy Relief Society and was an avid quilter. Violet was preceded in death by her husband of thirty seven years, Leonard Sherwood, a son, Robert Sherwood, two sisters, four brothers, her parents, Joseph Smith and Elsie Pepple, two great-grandchildren and her beloved companion of twelve years, Sherman Atkins. Survivors include her two daughters, Eleanor (Terrill) Linder of Ocean Springs and Shirley (James) Bacon of Altoona, MI; fifteen grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren. A private service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to the American Heart Association, 2159 E. Pass Road, Unit A, Gulfport, MS, 39507, 228-604-5300, or to your favorite charity. The Ocean Springs Chapel of Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Homes is in charge of arrangements.
