Virginia Dare Treherne Wright of Gautier, Mississippi peacefully passed away at the age of 84 at home on June 1, 2025 surrounded by her loving children. Virginia was born in Pascagoula, Mississippi in September 1940 to Verna Curtis Treherne and Robert E. Treherne. She graduated from Mobile County High School in 1958 and continued her education throughout her adult life.

Virginia married James Lee Hudson of Grand Bay, Alabama and together they had three children, Vicki Hudson Merchent, Theresa Hudson Bostwick and James (Jim) Leon Hudson. She later married Glendon J. Wright of Gautier, Mississippi in 1985 bringing his three children and several grandchildren into the extended family. They remained married until his passing in 2008.

Virginia worked as a staff assistant for USA Marine Environmental Consortium and Dauphin Island Sealab, where she collaborated in producing many marine environmental publications. Virginia later worked as an administrative assistant at Ingalls Shipbuilding and later at DesLaurie Sealand and finished her career at the Gautier Extension of the University of Southern Mississippi.

Virginia enjoyed spending time with family; especially her many grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved nature, enjoying her backyard visiting turtles, butterflies and hummingbirds and always kept her many gardens bursting with brightly colored, nectar-rich flowers. Her other special interests were art, music and Hallmark movie marathons! She was a devout Christian.

Virginia is survived by her children, Vicki Hudson Merchent (Bob), Theresa Hudson Bostwick, and James (Jim) Hudson (Carrie); her grandchildren, Tiffany Bostwick Butler (Josh), Jacob Ryan Bostwick (Nikki), Ginny Hudson Stevenson (Michael), Jillian Jordan Mosley (Clint), Jessie Robert Jordan, Shelbie Hudson Jung (Connan), Molly Merchent and Katherine Merchent Johnson; nine great grandchildren and one brother, Rev. John C. Treherne (Judy); as well as many other loved ones.

Virginia was preceded in death by her first husband, James Lee Hudson; her spouse, Glendon J. Wright; her parents; and seven of her eight siblings, Art, Bobby Jeff, Carvel, Pat, Peggy, Elaine and Martha, as well as many other loved ones.

In lieu of flowers, Virginia expressed appreciation for donations to either St. Jude Children’s Hospital or Shriners Children’s Hospital.

Special thanks to Enhabit Hospice employees, CNA Timara and the many caring individuals involved in Virginia’s care during her final days on earth.

Services will be held at Bradford O’Keefe Funeral Home in Ocean Springs on Monday, June 9, 2025 at 11:00 am. Friends may visit one hour prior. Interment will follow at Crestlawn Memorial Park.
