Walter J. "Walt" Wellman

TSgt. Walter "Walt" Wellman, (Retired USAF), age 74, of Wiggins, died Thursday, May 21, 2009 in Wiggins. He was a resident of the Coast for over thirty years. He was retired from the U.S. Air Force and served tours of duty in Africa, Germany, Korea, and USA and was a Communications Instructor at Keesler AFB. He was a member of DAV, VFW, and Order of the Cootie of which he was a past Grand Commander. He embraced the Protestant belief. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Hildegard Wellman; his parents, Walter Guy Wellman and Flossie Alice Fraley Wellman; three brothers, Bill Wellman, Burl Wellman, and Rex Wellman; a sister, Kat Tito. Mr. Wellman is survived by his wife, Mary Anna Daugherty of Wiggins; a son, Carsten Guy Wellman; two sisters, Joanne Wellman and Rella Hawkins; a brother, Stan Wellman; two grandchildren, Kara Wellman and Austin Wellman; four step-grandchildren, Patrick Keller, Keith Keller, Nancy Smith and Dena Rigdon; seven step-great-grandchildren; and one step- great-great grandchild. There will be a graveside service Tuesday, May 26, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at Biloxi National Cemetery in Biloxi with full military honors. In lieu of flowers the family request memorials to The American Cancer Society, 417 Security Square, Gulfport, MS 39507.
