William “Bill” Gillies, age 85, of Biloxi, MS passed away on Wednesday, September 25, 2024, comfortably at his home surrounded by family & friends.
Bill was a long-time resident of the Mississippi Gulf Coast. He was born in Tylertown, NY on July 9, 1939. He earned an associate’s degree and certification in Quality Assurance. He was retired Air Force before working for the Navy at Ingalls and worked for FEMA following Hurricane Katrina. He was an active member of Heritage United Methodist Church in D’Iberville, MS. Bill enjoyed guitars, banjo, bluegrass music, antique cars, black & white and western movies and spending time with his family and grandchildren.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, William Sheldon Gillies and Mary Agnes Huott; and by his brother, Sheldon Gillies.
Bill is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Sheila Ann Gillies; his four children, Kim Gillies, Jennifer Gronkoski (Rob), Kelly Weaver (Kevin), and James Gillies (Vanessa); his eight grandchildren, Chelsea, Mikayla (TJ), Devin, Kayla, Hendrix, Merryn & Riker; and his two great grandchildren, Amelia & Carson; and also, by his cat, Daisy.
Services will be held at Heritage United Methodist Church in D’Iberville, Saturday, September 28th at 11am. Friends are welcome to come visit starting at 10am. Interment to follow at Swetman Memorial Cemetery located at 3229 Mallett Rd. in D’Iberville.
