William “Bill” McWhirter, aged 86, of Gautier, passed away peacefully in his home on Tuesday, February 13, 2024.
Bill was a proud graduate of Boise High School before serving in the Air Force and Air National Guard. After an honorable discharge, he pursued higher education, eventually finding his way to Gautier, MS, where he co-owned and operated the Ocean Springs Airport alongside his beloved wife, Rosemary.
The airport held a special place in Bill's heart, a testament to his dedication and hard work. His efforts during challenging times, such as providing support to the Joint Task Force Alabama after Hurricane Katrina, earned him recognition, including a commendation from former President George W. Bush. Bill's passion for flying extended beyond work, as he enjoyed piloting his Bonanza airplane.
Beyond aviation, Bill found joy in various pursuits, including water sports, golf, photography, and caring for his many beloved cats and dogs.
Bill is preceded in death by his cherished wife, Rosemary (Flynn) McWhirter; his parents, Mary Jane and Merle; and his son, William McWhirter.
He is survived by his loving daughter, Ku’uipo Lynn McWhirter; his grandson, Pohai (Marissa); his sister, Jan Osborn; and her son, Byron Osborn.
In lieu of flowers, they kindly request donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, a cause close to Bill's heart.
In honor of Bill's memory, the family will hold a private service at a later date.
Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Homes is honored to serve the family of William “Bill” McWhirter.
