Yvonne Smith

Yvonne Marion Charlette Harder Smith, passed away on October 6, 2017 at the age of 93. She was the last of 12 children. Yvonne was born to Clara Lahost and Emile Harder on June 11, 1924 in New Orleans, LA. She was a child of the Great Depression. Growing up with little material things instilled a spirit of love and sharing which she lived her whole life by. Yvonne worked her entire life. She worked at Prof Carpenter’s Music Store and was a USO Girl in Biloxi. Tech Sergeant, Ernest L. Smith, her future husband, was at one of these dances. She retired as a cafeteria worker for the Biloxi School Systems. Yvonne was a devoted and loving mother. Yvonne is preceded in death by her parents; her siblings; her son, the late Robert Stephen “Snoopy” Smith, who was a local musician who played the tenor saxophone; and her grandson, the late Christian Michael “Bo” Smith, whom she loved to play with on the floor when he was young. She is survived by her daughter, Linda L. Smith Shaw who is a medical technologist at a local hospital. BC or Beep C is what she was known by to those who were close to her. She was considered “The Rock” of the family. Yvonne always said you live in the world, but you are not a part of it. She seemed to have a direct line to God in her devotion. Yvonne has gone home to be with Jesus. Our Angel will be missed.
