Zoraida S. Cannon

October 31, 1934 — July 3, 2022

Ocean Springs

Zoraida S. Cannon, age 87, passed away on Sunday, July 3, 2022, at the Truewood by Merrill, senior living community.

Zoraida was a long-time member of the St. Elizabeth-Seton and St. Alphonsus Catholic Church communities. A Mass will be held at 11:00 AM on Sunday, July 10, 2022, at the St. Elizabeth-Seton in Ocean Springs. Zoraida was a dedicated, selfless daughter, loving wife, caring mother, and a kind, generous friend to all who knew her.

Zoraida was affectionately known as Aida or Idee by her friends and family members. She was born on October 31, 1934, to her parents, Antonio Busch Suárez and Dolores M. Suárez. She will be missed by her son Mike, sisters (and best friends) Pili and Terry, her very dear friends Cheryl and A.J., and the many great friends she has made in and around the gulf coast over the years. Zoraida worked as an executive secretary and Spanish professor early on and was a hard-working widowed mother to her son Mike. In 1984, she began her adventure on the Gulf Coast, when she married her old friend of almost 20 years and the love of her life, Thomas L. Cannon, and moved to Ocean Springs. They were a loving, wonderful and happy couple who shared their lives together, raising their son Mike and touching many lives with their kindness and laughter until Tom passed away in 1999. After some years traveling to various places around the world, having adventures and visiting friends and family, Zoraida spent her last years in her beloved Ocean Springs, chatting and laughing with old friends and new. She will especially be missed by her sisters while sitting around the kitchen table, enjoying a mix of lively discussion and hysterical giggles over many, many cups of coffee.

The family would like to extend a special thank you the dedicated and caring staff of Truewood by Merrill; the truly extraordinary loving sitters from B&L Sitting Services; and the amazing staff at Notre Dame Hospice.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers Mass intentions or donations be made to the Mayo Clinic Dementia Research fund.

Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home is honored to serve the family and friends of Zoraida S. Cannon.
